Welcome to my website!

As a pencil portrait artist based in Glossop nestled in the picturesque Peak District; surrounded by breathtaking scenery and vibrant communities. Finding artistic inspiration to create fine art portraits, is never too far away.

Drawing has been my passion from an early age and having the opportunity to share this passion with others gives me an enormous amount of pleasure.

Working solely from high-quality digital images which you provide. I transform these images into original pieces of fine art that you and your family can enjoy for many years to come. So it goes without saying, that getting the perfect portrait and capturing the essence of what is to be drawn is as important to me as it would be for you.

Although I take commissions from clients throughout the UK. The actual thought of asking someone to undertake a commission can seem a little bit of a leap of faith. But rest assured, you will be guided through the journey from start to finish, making sure that at every step that you not only understand but that you are comfortable and happy with the venture to be undertaken.

Please do take a look at my gallery and if you like what you see do not hesitate to get in touch without any obligation payment or commitment.

I am friendly, professional and always open to give advice on any future project you may have.

The  'Way' of the pencil

I primarily use graphite, pastel, and coloured pencils, focusing on crafting lifelike depictions of people, pets, and wildlife. The technique is crucial in creating a portrait that ranges from mediocre to one that showcases your true worth as an artist. By layering and skillfully utilizing each pencil stroke, I enhance the beautiful tones of light and value in each drawing, allowing the illusion of realism to reveal the unique character of the subject.

I never utilize blending stumps burnishing techniques in my work, and I exclusively use high-quality drawing paper and pencils.

Bringing out the unique features of the paper is essential to my artwork. The subtle peaks and valleys of the paper effectively capture the texture of natural skin and convey the depth and tonal variations of fur, which are vital for creating a  fine art portrait.

If you're interested in having a personalized piece of art created for yourself or as a gift for someone special, please feel free to get in touch.

PASTEL &  COLOURED       PENCIL PORTRAITS

If you do decide to take things further, that's great. We can then start talking about your thoughts, composition, size or layout of your commission. It is important for me that your portrait is tailored to how you would want it to look.Even though I usually work with one main image (digital). Of course, other images will be used too.

Starting with a main reference image  additional Images are used, sorted, swapped or even changed so that a 'feel' can be taken on how best we can compose your portrait. This initially may take time and at these early stages a number of conversations on the telephone or e-mail will ensue. But all of this is perfectly normal!
